City, partner-agencies will review safety improvements after deadly attack
Kingston’s Integrated Care Hub (ICH) at 661 Montreal St. will stay closed for an extended period as community agencies and the City of Kingston review safety measures. The site, along with the nearby Belle Park encampment, was closed to the public on Sept. 12 after a tragic incident led Kingston Police to conduct a criminal investigation.
Although the investigation is now complete, police presence and security fencing will remain in place. The City and ICH partners are assessing changes needed to improve the safety of staff, service users, and the public.
The ICH, which supports some of Kingston’s most vulnerable residents, will reopen once these improvements are in place. In the meantime, outreach programs are providing support to those affected.
People who were sheltering at Belle Park will have access to collect personal belongings in the coming days, with agencies offering help during the process. Addiction and Mental Health Services (AMHS-KFLA) are available 24/7 through crisis lines.
The ICH is backed by a network of partners that offer low-barrier services to people facing housing, substance use, or mental health challenges. Further updates on the reopening will be provided as more information becomes available.
