Useful items? Give 'em away!
The City of Kingston’s last Giveaway Day of the year is happening on October 12. Residents are encouraged to place unwanted but usable items at the curb, clearly marked as ‘FREE,’ for others to take.
The event aims to reduce waste by keeping secondhand items out of landfills and supporting the community. Residents can share their finds on social media using #WasteNotYGK.
Suggested items to give away include books, DVDs, small appliances, kitchenware, and unwanted gifts. However, items like baby walkers, car seats, and mattresses should not be put out due to safety concerns.
The city reminds participants to take back any unclaimed items by day’s end. Those wishing to pick up items should respect others’ property and only take marked ‘FREE’ items.
Kingston is committed to promoting waste reduction and sustainability as part of its vision to be a smart, livable city. More details can be found on the city’s website.
