Legacy programs may continue
After 16 years of serving Kingston’s food community, Loving Spoonful has announced it will cease operations. The organization, which began as a volunteer-led food rescue initiative, grew into a hub for community food programs, including the GROW project in 20 schools, Community Kitchens, and the Kingston Community Gardens Network.
Rising financial challenges have hit many Canadian charities, including Loving Spoonful. The board made the tough decision to shut down but is negotiating with a local group to keep key programs running.
Staff are working to fulfill current program commitments, and Loving Spoonful thanked both past and present employees for their dedication.
“Loving Spoonful has had a tremendous impact on the community, thanks to our volunteers, donors, and partners,” the organization shared in a statement. The team hopes that the legacy of connecting people to healthy food will continue through future partnerships.
