Mark Geoffrey Sirett receives Order of Canada for elevating Canadian choral music

Mark Geoffrey Sirett, a Kingston-based composer and conductor, has been named a Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.) for his remarkable contributions to Canadian choral music. 

Sirett, the founding artistic director of the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, has led one of the largest and most successful community choir programs in North America for over 30 years. 

His efforts have impacted thousands of choristers of all ages, promoting Canadian music both locally and globally.

An award-winning conductor, Sirett is known for his dedication to Canadian composers, frequently championing their works alongside his own. 

As an internationally recognized guest conductor, choral clinician, and adjudicator, he has introduced Canadian music to audiences around the world. 

Sirett was one of many celebrated at a ceremony at Rideau Hall, where Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon presided.
