Kingston’s quest to secure Lemoine Point Farm continues

Clarification needed to get the waterfront property into the city's hands

 Kingston Mayor Brian Paterson has released a video statement with an update on efforts to integrate the Lemoine Point Farm into the City's Waterfront Master Plan. 

The farm, located at 2000 Front Road, is crucial to the city’s vision for a connected and accessible waterfront. 

Mary Fraser, who passed away in 2022, said the City could purchase the land under certain conditions, including preserving its rural zoning. 

However, there is a disagreement between the City and Fraser’s estate trustees regarding the will’s terms. 

The trustees have sought court guidance to clarify these terms. Mayor Paterson says the estate has had two separate appraisals done for the property. 

He adds the city isn't going to agree to a price that isn't in line with its future use. 

Mayor Paterson has acknowledged the importance of Fraser’s intentions and the farm’s cultural and natural heritage. In his statement, the Mayor says the City is committed to their waterfront plan, but must be responsible. 

The Save Lemoine Point Farm group said in a statement of their own that it is "Encouraged by the Mayor's stated goals for the Farm," referring to maintaining the rural use of the property.  

They are hopeful that the City will overcome the legal challenges to protect and utilize the property in line with Fraser’s wishes and the City’s goals.
