Knife attack at Kingston shelter sparked police hunt

The Kingston Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter. The suspect, Ryan Tonello was located and taken into custody by the Kingston Police without incident.

Kingston Police are searching for a 42-year-old man after an assault with a weapon at a Cowdy Street shelter on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Officers responded around 8:50 a.m. after a victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a knife attack.
Police have identified Ryan Tonello, of Orillia, Ontario, as the suspect. He is wanted for assault with a weapon and possession of weapons dangerous.
Tonello is described as Caucasian, with reddish-blonde hair, a scruffy beard, a grey hoodie, a dark motorcycle jacket, and light-colored ripped jeans.
Authorities warn he is armed and poses a threat to public safety. If seen, do not approach. Call 911 immediately.
