Endorses Kingston Mayor as next candidate on her way out
Former federal MP and Conservative Party Deputy Leona Alleslev has withdrawn from the race to represent the Conservatives in Kingston and the Islands.
Alleslev emphasized the importance of party unity ahead of a possible federal election, urging Conservatives to rally behind a strong candidate to flip the traditionally Liberal riding.
“This is not a moment for division,” she said. “We must unite as one team with one goal: Conservative victory.”
Alleslev announced her decision to support Mayor Bryan Paterson as the candidate, praising her supporters and volunteers for their efforts, including those who canvassed in freezing temperatures.
Paterson and Jerrod Stearns remain in the race as the party gears up for its nomination process.
Alleslev’s withdrawal highlights the Conservatives’ focus on strengthening their position in key ridings ahead of a potential election.
A formal announcement regarding the party’s candidate for Kingston has yet to be made.
