Limestone District School Board approves $21 million for major school upgrades

Projects to get underway soon

The Limestone District School Board has approved $21 million in upgrades for 49 projects across 32 schools, focusing on HVAC, roofs, windows, and electrical systems.

The funding, provided by the Ministry of Education, was set aside during last year’s budget consultations. The board tracks building conditions annually, while the ministry inspects schools every five years.

Of the total, $16.7 million will go toward School Condition Improvement (SCI) projects, which must prioritize major building components like roofing and HVAC systems. Another $4.4 million is allocated for School Renewal, which covers ventilation, safety, and accessibility.

The biggest project is a $2.9-million window and roof replacement at Sydenham High School. Other major upgrades include Centennial Public School ($1.8M), Elginburg Public School ($1.3M), and Bayridge Public School ($1.2M).

Board officials say many projects will begin soon, not just during the summer.

These improvements aim to enhance safety, prevent system failures, and maintain aging school buildings across the region.
