Local mayors praise Ontario's relief amid soaring policing bills

Cash for OPP quite welcome

The Ontario government's cash relief to help municipalities pay for OPP service is getting a thumbs up in Lennox and Addington.

We spoke with Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson, who shared his feelings after first hearing the news

The province has allocated $722,000 to go towards Greater Napanee's bill, which saw a staggering 23% increase.

Loyalist Township's Mayor Jim Hegadorn, like many others, is appreciative of the government’s cash relief

This is very welcome news as the municipal budget process continues.

The Mayor of Greater Napanee shared they try and raise taxes by as little as possible and that the only other way to not raise taxes is to reduce service levels.

Richardson is grateful their partners at the provincial level have listened to their requests and those of communities facing similar struggles.
