Kingston Police help battle organized crime through 'Project Khaki'
A large quantity of drugs and cash have been taken off of our streets.
In January 2024, members of the Correctional Service of Canada and Kingston Police launched a drug trafficking investigation into an inmate organizing drug trafficking within federal institutions and Kingston. The investigation, dubbed Project Khaki, concluded on May 16, 2024, with the execution of a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant by the Kingston Police Drug Enforcement Unit, assisted by the Emergency Response Unit, at a Weller Avenue address in Kingston’s north end.
The search resulted in the seizure of significant evidence believed to be intended for both Kingston streets and federal correctional institutions. Police confiscated 5,013.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine, $680 in Canadian currency, a cell phone, a drone, multiple miniature cell phones and SIM cards, charging cables, several digital scales, tobacco, marijuana, and rolling papers.
A 32-year-old male inmate is charged with conspiracy to traffic a Schedule I substance and conspiracy to commit the indictable offence of mischief endangering life. A 30-year-old Kingston resident, held in custody pending a bail hearing, faces charges of conspiracy to traffic a Schedule I substance, conspiracy to commit the indictable offence of mischief endangering life, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and failure to comply with a release order.
