Man accused in Kingston stabbings makes court appearance

Case was adjourned to late January

Andre Wareham, 47, made a brief video court appearance on Jan. 3, 2025, in Kingston’s Ontario Court of Justice.

The man, charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder, appeared calm and polite during the proceedings.

His lawyer is arranging a pre-trial meeting with the Crown, and the case was adjourned to late January.

Wareham remains in custody at the Central East Correctional Centre following his September 2024 arrest.

The charges relate to three stabbings near Montreal Street in Kingston that left two victims, Taylor Wilkinson, 38, and John Hood, 41, dead. A third person survived with life-threatening injuries.

The incident triggered a lengthy standoff with police and led to the closure of the nearby Integrated Care Hub and encampment.

Court documents reveal Wareham was acquitted of a 2009 murder in Thunder Bay, where he claimed self-defence.

The current charges have not yet been tested in court.
