Liberal MP praises outgoing PM's legacy
Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation “bittersweet,” reflecting on their decade of working together.
In an interview with the Whig, Gerretsen praised Trudeau’s leadership, particularly during the pandemic, and expressed confidence that history will look favorably on his legacy.
He highlighted key programs introduced under Trudeau, such as $10-a-day childcare, the national school food program, and Pharmacare, which he believes will be seen as progressive achievements for Canada.
Gerretsen acknowledged the criticism Trudeau faced but said that with his resignation, the voices of dissent will fade, and people will remember the positive changes.
When asked about the next Liberal leader, Gerretsen ruled out running himself, instead endorsing Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Dominic LeBlanc, as a potential successor.
