More drivers nabbed for impaired driving as annual RIDE campaign continues

Eastern Ontario OPP charge 18

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in East Region charged 18 more drivers with impaired driving in the fourth week of the Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.

Since the campaign started on November 21, 2024, 83 motorists have been charged with impaired driving.

“Driving under the influence puts everyone at risk. Make responsible choices to keep this holiday season safe for all,” said Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm, OPP East Region Commander.

Officers conducted over 795 RIDE programs, stopping vehicles to ensure drivers were not impaired by alcohol or drugs.

In addition to impaired driving charges, 23 drivers received warning-range suspensions. Their licences were suspended, and vehicles impounded.

RIDE programs can happen anywhere, anytime—day or night.

The OPP urges residents to call 9-1-1 if they suspect someone is driving impaired. "You could be saving lives," Wilhelm said.
