More than 100 drivers charged in OPP Festive RIDE campaign

And it isn't over yet...

As we hit New Year's Eve, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding us they're cracking down on impaired drivers.

Their officers charged 20 more drivers with impaired driving during week five of the Festive RIDE campaign, bringing the total to 103 since November 21, 2024.

OPP East Region Commander Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm urged everyone to plan safe rides home as New Year’s approaches. “Impaired driving can instantly change a celebration into a tragedy,” she said.

Over 1,100 RIDE programs have been conducted across eastern Ontario, where officers check for alcohol or drug impairment. In addition to charges, 29 drivers received warning-range suspensions, leading to licence suspensions and vehicle impoundments.

RIDE checkpoints can appear anywhere, day or night. Police urge residents to call 9-1-1 if they suspect impaired driving, emphasizing the importance of public safety.

With 2025 just a day away, the OPP reminds everyone to celebrate responsibly and avoid dangerous risks on the road.
