Multi-use plan for Extendicare building should please many

Kingston council seems pleased

The Extendicare property at 309 Queen Mary road is being transformed into a multi-use care and community facility.

This is a big win for the city says Councilor Wendy Stephen.

Council and Staff are saying it's an innovative approach to addressing multiple community concerns under one building.

Councillor Brandon Tozzo is fully on board.

The $9.4 million refurbishment will see transitional housing rooms for up to 35 people who are at least 55-years-old.  They'll pay rent but no more than 30% of their income and can stay up to 18 months.

There'll also be a primary health care clinic and community meeting space.

Council endorsed the staff report for the project by a vote of 12-1, with Councillor Jeff McLaren the lone opposed.
