New $98M electronic warfare facility underway at CFB Kingston

Around 150 jobs to be created during construction

Construction has begun on a new $98-million facility for the 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment (21 EW Regt) at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Kingston. Mark Gerretsen, MP for Kingston and the Islands, broke ground on January 13, 2025, on behalf of Defence Minister Bill Blair.

The 8,350 m² facility will consolidate units across the base into a secure compound, improving collaboration and operations. The two-story building will feature classrooms and administrative spaces to enhance training and mission planning for personnel.

Designed by Colbourne & Kembel Architects Inc. of Kingston, the project will support approximately 150 regional jobs during construction.

Expected to be operational by 2028, the facility will strengthen the regiment’s ability to support electronic warfare operations, including communication interception, technology maintenance, and reconnaissance.

The 21 EW Regt is comprised of Reserve and Regular Force members and plays a critical role in supporting Canadian Armed Forces operations worldwide.
