New school coming to Amherstview

Construction approved to replace Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has announced the Ministry of Education has approved the construction of a replacement school for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview.

The new $28.3 million facility will be built on the current school grounds, adjacent to the existing building.

The replacement school will feature 449 pupil places and three child care rooms, providing a total of 49 licensed spaces. It will continue to serve as a kindergarten to Grade 8 school, offering both French Immersion and English programs.

"Our Board realized a need for the reconstruction of this school as Amherstview continues to grow," said David DeSantis, Director of Education. "Our commitment to excellence in Catholic education continues for this expanding and vibrant community."

Construction is expected to begin in late 2024. During this period, the school community will remain in the existing building. This project is part of the province's capital investment program aimed at providing students with improved learning environments.
