New soccer stadium plan could bring pro soccer to Kingston

Getting closer to reality for soccer fans

A proposal for a new soccer stadium on Kingston’s Memorial Centre grounds is set to go before city council next week.

Victory Grounds Ventures is behind the plan, which would see the stadium built on the north-east part of the grounds. The facility would host a new Canadian Premier League team, semi-professional teams, and community groups. It would include a winter dome for year-round use, with all costs covered by the private sector.

The stadium would not affect the arena, water park, or Memorial Wall, but the dog park would be relocated, and barns in the south-west corner removed for parking.

If approved, Kingston would join the eight-team Canadian Premier League.

Victory Grounds Ventures and Kingston Economic Development are hosting information sessions Thursday at Daft Brewing (5–6:30 p.m.) and Friday at the Strata Hotel (8–9:30 a.m.). Registration is required at www.kingstonchamber.ca.
