Matthew Splinter being held until at least mid-month
A South Frontenac man accused in a fatal boat collision on Bobs Lake will remain in custody until mid-November, following a brief appearance in a Kingston courtroom on Friday.
Matthew Splinter, 44, is charged after a tragic crash on May 18 in the Buck Bay area of Bobs Lake, north of Kingston. The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Victoria Day weekend, when a speedboat ended up on top of a fishing boat, killing three young adults and injuring five others.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested Splinter this week after a five-month investigation. He now faces multiple charges, including three counts each of dangerous operation causing death and impaired operation causing death.
The court set his next appearance for Nov. 14, allowing time to finalize a bail plan. Victims Riley Orr, Juliette Cote, and Kaila Bearman, all in their early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
