Jet-ski-like craft hit stationary object

Leeds County OPP is investigating a fatal watercraft collision on the St. Lawrence River. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 6, just before 6:00 a.m., among small islands west of the Thousand Islands Bridge.

A personal watercraft (PWC) carrying two people collided with an obstacle overnight.

The passenger managed to swim to shore for help, prompting a search in the area. Tragically, responders found the male driver in the water without vital signs. The 21-year-old was pronounced deceased after being brought to shore. His name has not been released.

The investigation is in its early stages, with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit and the Office of the Chief Coroner.
