Pickup truck occupants sought for hate crime assault

Kingston Police are seeking the public’s help to identify the occupants of a pickup truck involved in a random assault and hate crime during Pride Month.

On Saturday, June 8th, at around 4:15 p.m., two women were walking towards downtown Kingston on the south sidewalk of Princess St near Nelson St, both wearing t-shirts with Pride colors or designs. A grey pickup truck with at least three occupants approached from behind. A passenger threw a large cup of ice water, hitting one woman in the face and causing a minor injury. The assailant, a male in the front passenger seat, also shouted a homophobic slur before the truck continued east on Princess St. Another male in the right rear passenger seat appeared to be filming the encounter with a camera.

The pickup truck is believed to be a newer model Nissan Frontier or Titan, featuring black roof rails, a white sticker on the bottom left of the rear window, and a “PRO-4X” decal on the right rear side. The front passenger was wearing a black t-shirt and black hat.

Detectives are requesting any information regarding the suspect vehicle, such as a licence plate number or locations it frequents. Identifying the drivers or usual passengers of this truck would also be helpful.

Nearby businesses have been canvassed, but proprietors, homeowners, and residents in the area are encouraged to review any video surveillance footage that might assist the investigation.
