App has been linked to rising sextortion cases involving youth
Local police are urging parents to remove the Wizz app from their children's phones due to increasing concerns over sextortion.
The app, popular among millions of users, including teens, has features similar to Tinder and the now-defunct Omegle, known for its child exploitation issues.
According to Cybertip.ca, over 180 reports about Wizz have been received since 2021, with a staggering tenfold increase in 2023 compared to the previous year. Alarmingly, 91% of these reports involve sextortion, with young males aged 15-17 being the primary victims.
Authorities recommend parents discuss the risks of using Wizz and take immediate action if they suspect their child has been victimized. If you suspect your child is at risk, contact your local police station immediately.
