Quebec man charged after stolen car chase on 401

Man evaded capture for several hours

A 23-year-old man from Quebec is facing charges after a stolen vehicle was spotted on Highway 401 in Loyalist Township.

Lennox and Addington OPP say the incident happened on September 24, just after 9:00 a.m., when an officer saw a suspicious car heading eastbound. A check showed the licence plate was registered to a vehicle stolen from Thornhill.

Police followed the car off Highway 401 onto Sharpe Road, where the driver took off. Officers found the vehicle abandoned, and the driver fled on foot.

With help from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the canine unit, police searched the area. A tip from local residents led to the arrest of the suspect later that afternoon.

Mamadou LY, 23, of Grenby, Quebec, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle and flight from police. He was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court in Greater Napanee.
