Expansion expected to bring 200 new jobs with it
The Ontario government is expanding the Quinte Detention Centre in Napanee, increasing its capacity by over 23% to support growing inmate counts and improve care and programming for offenders.
Solicitor General Michael Kerzner made the announcement Wednesday.
With this expansion comes to addition of 200 new staff.
This expansion is part of a larger effort to modernize Ontario’s adult correctional system, supported by a $500 million investment in infrastructure upgrades and new staff hiring.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) praised the project, noting it will help manage inmate populations and enhance working conditions for corrections staff.
The government has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the project, with shortlisted applicants invited to submit proposals in summer 2025.
