Leaf collection begins this week
Leaf collection begins this week in the City of Kingston.
To participate, residents should place leaves and yard waste in brown paper bags or open-top containers at the curb by 8 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week. Vegetable waste, such as tomato plants, can also be included, but residents should shake off excess soil.
Each brown paper bag must not exceed 20 kg (44 pounds). Importantly, plastic bags are not accepted, as they cannot be composted.
Residents are reminded not to rake leaves onto the curb, as this can create unsafe, slippery conditions and violate City bylaws. Keeping catch basins clear of leaves helps ensure proper drainage on roadways. By following these guidelines, Kingston residents can contribute to a cleaner, greener community during the fall season.
