Thunderstorms are expected
The Kingston area is under a severe weather alert as conditions are ripe for the development of dangerous thunderstorms. Forecasters warn of potential hazards including wind gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, localized heavy rainfall up to 50 mm, hail up to nickel size, and a risk of tornadoes.
The thunderstorms, currently advancing eastward from western Lake Ontario, are intensifying and could bring significant impacts such as property damage from hail, strong winds capable of overturning large vehicles, and flash flooding due to heavy downpours. Emergency Management Ontario advises immediate shelter if threatening weather approaches, emphasizing the danger of lightning.
Residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions as the severe weather is expected to impact the area late this morning into early afternoon.
