The City of Kingston is embarking on a journey towards 2051
The City of Kingston is charting a course for the future with plans to accommodate a projected population of 220,000 by 2051.
To achieve this, the City will create a new Official Plan and an Integrated Mobility Plan, both pivotal to shaping land use and transportation for the next 25 years. Public participation will be crucial for these projects' success.
“For the first time in the City’s history, we are completing both of these plans at the same time,” said Laura Flaherty, Project Manager with Planning Services. “These are two substantial and foundational policy projects that will determine how the city grows and moves as we develop during the next quarter century.”
Matt Kussin, Manager of Transportation Policy and Programs, highlighted the importance of this dual approach. “How we choose to get around depends on where we live and where we need to go. Likewise, growth can be directed to areas where future transportation improvements are planned.”
A Community Advisory Group will be formed to provide input, ensuring diverse voices are heard. Interested residents are encouraged to apply before August 9th at 11:55 p.m.
The Official Plan work begins this summer, followed by the Integrated Mobility Plan this fall.
