Updated: Snow Squall Warning in effect

Up to 25 cm of snow possible

A snow squall warning is in effect for Kingston, Odessa, and the Frontenac Islands. Heavy snowfall and blowing snow are reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions.

Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Ontario are expected to bring 15 to 25 cm of snow today into tonight, with peak rates of 3 to 6 cm per hour. Visibility may drop to near zero under these squall bands.

Drivers on Highway 401 and surrounding roads should prepare for rapidly changing weather and deteriorating travel conditions, particularly during the morning commute. Snow squalls may shift this evening before moving southward overnight.

Motorists are advised to slow down and maintain a safe following distance.

Stay informed by checking weather updates before heading out. For road conditions, visit ontario.ca/511, follow @511Ontario on Twitter, or call 5-1-1.

Take caution as winter weather intensifies in the area.
