Dry conditions get the blame
If your weekend plans involve getting some burning done in South Frontenac, take note of the following.
South Frontenac's Fire Chief, Del Blakney, has announced a Level One Fire Ban due to extremely dry conditions. Residents are prohibited from setting off fireworks and conducting open-air burning, including grass and brush. However, campfires and cooking fires remain allowed during this ban.
Blakney highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating, “October has been dry, and no substantial rain is expected soon.” He noted that on October 23, all eight South Frontenac Fire Stations, with help from Central Frontenac, battled two wildfires.
The fire season in South Frontenac runs from April 1 to October 31. While a Level One Fire Ban permits cooking and campfires, a Total Fire Ban prohibits all open-air burning. Residents can subscribe to the Fire Ban Status page on the Township’s website for updates. Any open-air fire must be supervised at all times under the Township’s Open Air Burning By-law.
