Teens face serious charges after incident with fake gun

The 14 year-olds from Amherstview are in big trouble

Two 14-year-olds from Amherstview are facing serious criminal charges following an incident involving a replica handgun and threats.

The Lennox and Addington OPP Detachment responded to reports on Manitou Crescent on November 7, 2024, around 6 p.m., where two male youths allegedly entered two stores, displayed what looked like a handgun, and made threatening remarks. Similar actions were also reported on nearby streets and in a parking lot.

After the OPP posted about the incident on social media, two individuals came forward and were arrested on November 9, 2024.

The teenagers now face several charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purposes, mischief, and robbery with intent. Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Youth Court.

Under Canadian law, using a replica or toy gun during a crime is treated the same as using a real weapon.
