Additional safety measures delay opening

The opening of the temporary bridge at LaSalle Causeway, initially set for Monday, Sept. 30, has been delayed until Thursday, Oct. 3, according to a  report by the Kingstonist.

The publication wrote reported that Public Services and Procurement Canada cited additional safety measures as the reason for the delay, saying more time is needed to secure the structure for safe operation.

The LaSalle Causeway is a critical route between Kingston’s east end and downtown. Its closure, following an incident in April 2024 that damaged the original bridge, has caused major traffic congestion in the area.

Commuters can expect ongoing delays until the temporary bridge is open.

Once operational, the temporary structure is expected to ease congestion and restore a vital link for the city’s residents and visitors.

It is not known if the plan to remove the bridge for marine traffic twice this fall has been affected.
