The Christmas Turkey is a tradition to many, but responding to cooking fires is a trend that Kingston Fire and Rescue could do without.
Fire Inspector Sebastian Smiertka says unattended cooking fires remains the leading cause of fires in the area.
He adds stay with you food, even if it's a turkey in the oven, to make sure you can jump in should a fire occur.
He adds while people may tend to gather in the kitchen, that could also lead to people being bumped into while they are handling food by the stove.
