Tim Hortons is bringing back its limited-edition Special Olympics doughnut, but it will only be available from January 31 to February 2. Every dollar from sales will go directly to supporting local Special Olympics athletes.

The restaurant chain has partnered with Special Olympics Canada since 2016, funding youth programs, national games, and community activities. It has also hired many individuals with intellectual disabilities, including Special Olympics athletes.

The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training for people with intellectual disabilities. It was founded in the 1960s by Dr. Frank Hayden, who challenged misconceptions about fitness levels in children with disabilities. Today, more than 26,000 athletes participate in Ontario alone.

In Kingston, athletes can compete in sports like bowling, curling, and bocce. Donations help maintain and grow these programs. After the Tim Hortons fundraiser, the next big event will be the Kingston Polar Plunge on February 9, 2025.
