Looking to provide affordable housing
Kingston is celebrating the opening of an innovative tiny home project developed by Habitat for Humanity. Located on MacCauley Street, the project features eight self-contained units designed for deeply affordable rental housing. Two of the homes are fully accessible, catering to diverse community needs.
This initiative was made possible through land donated by the City of Kingston and funding from the Government of Canada via the Rapid Housing Initiative. It aligns with the city’s strategic plan to address housing shortages.
Mayor Bryan Paterson praised Habitat for Humanity for its commitment to helping vulnerable individuals at risk of homelessness.
Unique to this project, students from Ernestown Secondary School built the homes through the Building Construction Internship Program, gaining valuable skills while making a lasting community impact.
In addition to this project, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation recognized two other housing initiatives in Kingston aimed at supporting those in need.
