Trudeau government faces possible collapse

No-confidence vote could come sooner than first thought

Conservative MP Jonathan Williamson says he will push for a no-confidence vote that could bring down Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government in late January.

Thge Canadian Press reported that Williamson announced plans to introduce his motion at a public accounts committee meeting on Jan. 7. If approved, the motion will head to the House of Commons when it returns on Jan. 27.

A vote could happen as soon as Jan. 30, with an election triggered if the motion passes.

The Conservatives previously attempted three no-confidence votes in the fall, but all failed. However, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh now says he is prepared to topple the Liberal government following Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s unexpected resignation from cabinet.

The opposition claims Freeland’s departure highlights growing instability within Trudeau’s government. Political analysts predict intense debates ahead as Canada braces for a potential snap election.

This story will be updated as it develops.
