Kingston responds to extended LaSalle Causeway closure with new information webpage
Public Services and Procurement Canada has announced the LaSalle Causeway will remain closed as work progresses on a temporary solution.
Priestly Demolition Inc. is collaborating with PSPC to install a temporary modular bridge, expected to be operational by the end of September.
The temporary bridge will accommodate vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, providing a much-needed route until a permanent replacement is completed. This measure aims to alleviate the significant disruption caused by the closure to local residents and businesses.
The City of Kingston is actively addressing the situation by launching a new webpage to provide up-to-date information on the LaSalle Causeway closure. The site offers details on alternative travel options and outlines the city's efforts to manage traffic and support affected citizens.
Key initiatives include adjusting traffic signals to ease congestion, enhancing transit services during peak periods, and expediting construction projects such as increasing turning lane capacity at Montreal Street and John Counter Boulevard. Additionally, the city is collaborating with partners to offer services like a pedestrian water taxi.
Residents are encouraged to visit the LaSalle Causeway Closure webpage for the latest updates and to subscribe for news releases from the City and PSPC.
