A winter storm is set to hit the Kingston region late Wednesday, bringing significant snowfall and a risk of freezing rain.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Kingston, Odessa, and the Frontenac Islands, warning of snowfall amounts potentially exceeding 15 cm. Blowing snow and poor visibility will make travel hazardous, especially Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Forecasters say the storm’s exact track remains uncertain. If the system shifts south, snowfall totals could be much higher. If it moves north, snow may change to freezing rain or rain.
Drivers are urged to reconsider non-essential travel until conditions improve. Those who must travel should use caution and be prepared for icy roads.
Officials recommend staying updated on weather alerts and carrying an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight. More information on preparedness is available at getprepared.gc.ca.
