Witnesses sought after this week's fatal crash on the St. Lawrence

Any detail, no matter how small can help

Provincial police are appealing for witnesses after a tragic collision on the St. Lawrence River claimed the life of a 21-year-old man from Orangeville.

The incident occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning in the Thousand Islands, near Ivy Lea. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a personal watercraft (PWC) crash just before 6 a.m.

It is believed the PWC, with two people on board, collided with an obstacle, possibly a rock.

One passenger swam to shore to get help, but the driver was found in the water without vital signs.

Despite efforts to revive him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP spokesman Bill Dickson urged local cottagers and residents to come forward with any information, even if it seems small.

Police have not yet released the victim’s name as they continue to investigate.
