Greater Napanee Council will talk homelessness solutions at council meeting

Many of the same issues are seen here in Kingston

Greater Napanee's Town Council is set to address the homelessness crisis at its regular meeting this evening (October 22, 2024).

No doubt eyes from Kingston will be focused on the proceedings.

CAO Matthew Grant will present the Parks By-law and Encampment Protocol Consultation Report, summarizing feedback from recent public consultations. It reflects a range of opinions, with some residents calling for more compassion and housing support, while others advocate for stricter enforcement measures.

The report recommends amendments to the proposed Parks Bylaw and Encampment Protocol, based on the public input.

The Town is collaborating with social services, police, and non-profits to create new bylaws that ensure predictability for both housed and unhoused residents.

Public engagement included a delegation of 300 participants and a meeting attended by over 220 people, with additional outreach to those affected by homelessness through Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services.
