The younger brother of Don Cherry was 87
Kingston native Dick Cherry, younger brother of Don Cherry, died on March 6th.
The Kingston Frontenacs called him a mentor and friend. He was also a respected school teacher and principal on Amherst Island, known as fair and fun-loving.
Cherry played junior hockey for the Barrie Flyers before joining the Boston Bruins for the 1956–57 season. He later played for various minor league teams, including two seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs in the Eastern Professional Hockey League.
After retiring in 1963 to teach high school in Kingston, he returned to the NHL in 1968, playing 139 games for the Philadelphia Flyers.
He was inducted into the Kingston Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
Frontenacs President Doug Springer called him a dear friend and valued member of the team. The Springer family, Frontenacs staff, players, and former students are sending condolences to his family and friends.
