Local Hero Honored for Lifesaving CPR

Military vet comes through under pressure

On June 11, Gilles Langlois didn’t expect to save a life, but that’s exactly what he did. When a person collapsed outside Hotel Dieu, Langlois, a 34-year military veteran, quickly performed CPR. His swift actions revived the victim before first responders arrived.

In recognition, Langlois received a certificate of bravery on Aug. 16 from the Mayor’s Office. The certificate highlighted his quick thinking, which played a crucial role in saving a life.

The doctor who later attended to the victim, Dr. Steven Brooks, leads the Neighbours Saving Neighbours initiative, a program training locals in CPR to respond in emergencies. This full-circle moment underscored the importance of community readiness in crisis situations.

Langlois, however, humbly downplays his actions, stating, "I did what I hope anyone else would do for me if I was in that situation."
