"Spirit of Winter" sound and light coming to downtown this winter

A new outdoor sound and light experience called Spirit of Winter will light up downtown Kingston this winter. The event will highlight Indigenous storytelling and culture, thanks to a collaboration between the Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area (BIA) and local Indigenous groups.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen announced $200,000 in funding from the federal government’s Tourism Growth Program to support the project. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

The Spirit of Winter project is part of the Government of Canada’s ongoing efforts to invest in tourism in the region. The initiative aims to create new experiences that will attract visitors and strengthen the local tourism economy for years to come.

The immersive event is expected to draw crowds and bring a unique cultural experience to Kingston this winter.
