City will wait for progress
Kingston Council didn't feel the proposed Limestone City Co-Operative Housing project at 900 Divison Street was far enough along to commit a $2.3 million line of credit.
Deputy Mayor Jimmy Hassan used this analogy.
District 12 Councillor Ryan Boehme says the project looks good on paper, but it hasn't moved far off it yet.
Boehme said the group is shooting for the stars and that's a good thing, but it can also be a detriment.
On top of that a build would be a few years away, with Boehme saying council could use that money for other affordable housing projects that are closer to completion.
He also notes the city's reserves are still recovering from COVID-19 and sit at a tick under $10 million, so this is not an insignficant ask.
Council encouraged the stakeholders to continue to apply for grant funding and re-visit their request down the road when they have other concrete funding sources.
