Much of the work is underway
The Ontario government is investing $6 million to improve transportation in the Kingston area.
Work is underway to resurface the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401, from Westbrook Road to Highway 15, along with all four ramps at the Sir John A. Macdonald interchange.
Ric Breese, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation, highlighted the highway's vital role in connecting families, workers, and businesses across eastern Ontario.
The project also includes concrete repairs on two bridges between Sydenham Road and Highway 15, aiming to enhance safety and traffic flow.
Mayor Bryan Paterson noted that these upgrades will reduce congestion and strengthen Kingston's ties to important trade routes.
The project is expected to create jobs and support local economic growth. This initiative is part of Ontario's larger $3.9 billion investment in 2024-25, which includes 635 expansion and rehabilitation projects across the province.
