Report: Job cuts at St. Lawrence College

The Whig Standard reports at least 30 positions have been cut

There has been some job cuts at St. Lawrence College.

The Whig Standard reports at least 30 positions have gone away after federal government policy changes resulted in declining enrolment of international students.

It is believed most of the losses were administrative and support staff positions.

Back in January, Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced the Government of Canada was going to set an intake cap on international student permit applications to stabilize new growth for a period of two years. For 2024, the cap is expected to result in approximately 360,000 approved study permits, a decrease of 35% from 2023.
