What's good in Kingston? Helping each other out with Wheels of Hope

Can you offer some time to help a patient in need?

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Wheels of Hope program is looking for wonderful Kingstonians to volunteer to drive cancer patients get to their life-saving treatments. Doing so helps ensure our neighbours in need get to their vital treatments.

Spokesperson Mark Kahan tells us its a rewarding way to volunteer.

Kahan adds that volunteer drivers provide a crucial service, supporting local families and patients—sometimes making daily trips for treatment.

The program is flexible-volunteers can choose when and where they drive, with no long-term commitment required. The reward is second to none as drivers can develop relationships with those they help.

Kahan noted that there is a real need for drivers right now in Kingston, in surrounding municipalities, and across the province.

Drivers must have a valid license, a smoke-free vehicle, and be willing to undergo a background check. Wheels of Hope ensures volunteers are reimbursed for mileage or alternatively they can receive a tax receipt.
