“University District Safety Initiative” remains in place
Kingston police issued significant fines during the St. Patrick's Day weekend in the city's university district.
On Saturday, a "nuisance party" declaration was made on Johnson Street, where four $2,000 fines were handed out.
Shortly after, another declaration was made on Earl Street, resulting in three more fines, totaling $14,000.
A third party on Aberdeen Street was broken up in the afternoon, but no fines were issued.
In addition, Kingston bylaw officers imposed $34,000 in fines for various infractions, including noise violations and failure to leave the premises after a nuisance declaration.
The fines were part of the City of Kingston's “University District Safety Initiative,” which remains in effect until tomorrow (Tuesday).
Police and bylaw officers issued fines ranging from $100 to $2,000 for disturbances.
The city has reminded students and residents to celebrate responsibly and will release a final tally of fines when the initiative concludes.
