No police wrongdoing found
The Director of Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Joseph Martino, has terminated an investigation into the overdose of a 34-year-old man that occurred last month in Kingston, citing no evidence of police wrongdoing.
The incident happened on February 4, 2025, when Kingston Police officers arrested the man and brought him to the police station. Due to concerns about his behaviour and suspected drug use, officers transported him to hospital for medical attention, where he was treated for acetaminophen (Tylenol) poisoning.
Following a preliminary investigation, Director Martino concluded that there was no basis to continue the case.
According to the SIU, the man had overdosed prior to being arrested, and there was no connection between police actions and the overdose.
