The Liberal candidate was seen through a doorbell camera talking to a resident while canvassing.
Mark Gerretsen is issuing a mea culpa after a video surfaced showing the incumbent Kingston and the Islands Liberal candidate exchanging insults with a resident.
Speaking to KingstonDaily.ca, Gerretsen explains what had happened when he knocked on the door of a home while canvassing.
In the video, shot using a doorbell camera, that is circulating on social media (posted below), the resident answers and Gerretsen introduces himself only to be interrupted by the resident who said: "not a chance".
The resident is then heard calling Gerretsen "pathetic" as he walks away then Gerretsen is heard saying "you're pathetic" back to him.
Gerretsen says this is something that he has not experienced in his previous campaigns.
The video was posted on Saturday but Gerretsen believes the actual date of the incident took place weeks earlier.
He says he wishes he can take a mulligan and wants to reach out to the person.
Gerretsen says he would like to move on from this incident and wants to focus the last few days of the campaign on issues important to the residents of Kingston and the Islands.
