Meet the Candidates: Kingston and the Islands Conservative Bryan Paterson

The Mayor of Kingston says he can help the community more by going to Ottawa

Bryan Paterson is taking time away from his duties as head of council to run for the Conservatives in the federal election.

He tells KingstonDaily.ca he's been going around the community and is hearing concerns about housing, affordability, mental health, and public safety.

Paterson says there is only so much he can do for the city as mayor and that is why is running for the Conservatives.

He adds many of the issues are better handled at the federal level.

Paterson says the Conservatives, under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre, are in a better position to take on the threats of tariffs from the US and other economic issues affecting Canada.

He goes on to say the Liberals are in no position to lead the country for the next four years.

Paterson understands winning Kingston and the Islands will be tough as the Liberals have held the riding for the last three decades.

But he says he will continue to campaign until voting day April 28.

Paterson says he is not worried about his party winning the election even though the Liberals have closed the gap and appear to have overtaken the Conservatives in polling since Mark Carney became Liberal leader.
